Overview

The Senior Public Relations Specialist & Community Relations Lead will establish and manage a community of practice for the field Public Relations Specialist (PRS) function to grow Compassion's in-country community relations approach across all three of our field regions and improve preparedness for disaster/crisis communications. This individual will serve each PRS with best practices, tools and coaching to increase Compassion's external communication readiness in the field by training them to respond to news media as spokespeople, serve as points of contact in the event of a crisis or disaster, and better support the National Director's communication needs. He or she will proactively partner with each PRS as they support a growing network of international (in-country) media contacts to tell our story to key audiences in ways that build advocacy with local church, government and civic leaders.

Essential Job Functions

What will you do?

  • Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Act as an advocate for children. Understand and advance Christ's mandate to protect children. Take active steps to help protect against neglect, abuse, and exploitation of children
  • Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors
  • Promote and regulate creative, clear and consistent communication materials to support and enhance the organization's brand/identity and core messaging.
  • Plan, develop, and publish external communication (including press kits, press releases, annual reports, byline articles, storylines/pitch decks, web content, corporate messaging and other PR vehicles).
  • Collaborate with media to plan, prepare, and relay information concerning the organization for the press and wider community with the purpose of enhancing relationships with all of the organization's various publics in order to generate mutual understanding, goodwill, awareness and support. May also speak on behalf of the organization in pursuit of these objectives.
  • Develop social media initiatives and corresponding materials in alignment with large-scale communication initiatives. May assign such pieces to more junior specialists as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop and maintain the organization’s brand, including the style guide and editorial standards/policies.
  • Coach and provide expertise to the Public Relations Specialist field functions.

What do you bring?

  • 10 years relevant work experience preferred.
  • Experience working in community relations in the Global South highly desired.
  • Public Relations credential, Marketing Communications Specialist Certificate, or similar credential. Equivalent additional education, experience, training, or certification may be substituted for specified certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages preferred.
