  • Overview


    This director serves as a key leader of the Marketing Development function to direct the management of portfolios of high worth prospective and current donors in order to meet Compassion's annual and long-term revenue goals. The primary purpose of this position is to provide direction through subordinate managers and staff to a major sub-function or geographic region of the ministry. This responsibility includes hiring, discipline, and termination, as well as, coaching, performance management, assigning, checking, and approving work to achieve global strategies and objectives. The incumbent collaborates with other senior leaders and contributes to the development of functional strategy and makes decisions based on operational strategy and priorities.

    Essential Job Functions


    • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
    • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
    • Working through subordinate relationship managers, directs strategy for professional fundraising efforts with particular emphasis on qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of complex portfolios of various donors and constituents of Compassion's ministry. Further directs all fundraising activities and ensures achievement of revenue goals established by executive leadership.
    • Leads a team of subordinate relationship managers to design and implement unique fundraising and cultivation activities/campaigns for the purpose of generating revenue, increasing retention, identifying prospects, and acquiring commitments/sponsorships.
    • Working through subordinate staff, leads efforts to actively advocate on behalf of Compassion's ministry of Christian child development to audiences such as current and prospective major donors, constituents, foundations, etc. Through direct reports, drives relationship building efforts with planned portfolio of constituents through regular personal visits, phone calls, proposals, presentations, and other correspondence.
    • Provides direction and oversight to the development of multi-faceted fundraising forecasts. Ensures strategy and timelines for each constituent relationship are met and prospects qualified in order to achieve fundraising goals. Manages fundraising and stewardship reporting for high-level constituents and may present to leaders as needed.
    • May serve as leader on Compassion tours and project visits, meetings, and special events to further engage constituents with Compassion's mission and programs.
    • Frequently speaks on behalf of Compassion or children in need to a variety of prospective and current high-level/major donor constituent audiences. Further, targets message accordingly and draws upon in-depth knowledge of Compassion's full breadth of new and existing products.
    • If subordinate staff are assigned to this relationship manager, this incumbent provides leadership and development to direct reports. As applicable, fosters an environment of professional growth, in alignment with compassion’s strategies and objectives. Consults with peer management and senior leaders to successfully align departmental resources and priorities across Compassion. If managing direct reports, further selects, manages and develops assigned staff, establishing goals and objectives, coaching and managing performance, including discipline, motivation, and annual reviews.
    • Compiles or prepares and administers the annual budget and departmental expenses, ensuring accountability for on-time completion of deliverables based on department objectives, SLAs, and other Compassion standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and board policies.



    • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.


    • Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion's core "Cultural Behaviors" in all internal and external communication and relationships.


    • Bachelor's Degree in related field.

    Work Experience

    • Relevant work experience required to enable the individual to be able to successfully perform the job as listed.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certification in profession from nationally or internationally recognized organization, or similar credential.

    Working Environment: Office – Standard Office Environment

    Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day

    Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 50% of normal schedule
