  • Overview

    This principal specialist is fully responsible for the success of Compassion's Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program. Working with appropriate business leadership, he or she develops sound processes, standards and strategies that enable the effective and efficient recovery of the ministry from a major disruptive event or crises. The specialist creates the vision and revises program decision-making policies and principles, ensuring investments meet acceptable benefits and enable Compassion's ministry organizations to meet their goals and maintain a continuance of business capabilities in the event of a disaster.

    Essential Job Functions

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
    • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
    • Administers, corrects, and updates Compassions Business Continuity program, including Business Continuity plans from each organization within Compassion. Establishes work flow processes to ensure speedy recovery from a disaster and coordinates the Business Continuity program with the IT Disaster Recovery program.
    • Leads development of the Business Continuity program, conducts Business Impact Analysis with the crisis management team, defines the tools needed to efficiently monitor Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery programs, assess costs in dollars and time for critical outages, and keeps management appraised of any changes that would require new or changed processes and tools.
    • Serves as a key leader in the development and facilitation of relationships with external business continuity and disaster recovery vendors as necessary.
    • Leveraging his or her own expertise, designs, updates, and implements testing programs to ensure both Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans are executable and have been verified as effective.
    • Defines requirements and strategy used by the organization to accomplish tasks and provide oversight to ensure proper control and disaster recovery processes are in place that conform to those requirements and mitigate high priority risk outages.
    • Leads efforts during and after a Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery event or crisis. Provides expert leadership and guidance to management and ensures effective communication occurs prior to and during Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery events.
    • Coaches or oversees the work of junior specialists as well as team members in related disciplines.

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree Risk Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline


    Work Experience

    • Fifteen years Professional experience working in business continuity, disaster recovery, or similar field involving crisis operations as it pertains to business continuity and disaster recovery.


    Licenses and Certifications

    • Master Business Continuity Planner (MBCP) from the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International or Disaster Recovery Certified Expert (DRCE) from the Business Continuity Management Institute (BCMI).

    Working Environment: Office – Standard Office Environment

    Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day

    Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 10% of normal schedule
