  • Overview

    The Church Engagement area of Compassion has a mission of serving and partnering with churches in the US to help release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.  This position will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 70 people and helping them identify the best ways to accomplish this mission.  At present, the team partners with churches in the US and connects them with churches in the developing world that are ministering to and discipling children.

    Essential Job Functions

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
    • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
    • Responsible for full-cycle talent management of hiring, coaching, development, corrective action and termination, following standard corporate processes. Responsible for directing the efforts of the field marketing team that partners with over 10,000 churches. Leads Compassion staff in the delivery of the highest level of customer service by educating staff on the needs and expectations of our church partners and constituents.
    • Responsible for the overall success of Compassion's Church Engagement efforts as well as evaluating and generating new opportunities.
    • Directs the creation and implementation of plans and strategies to help release more children in poverty in Jesus’ name across Church Engagement areas.
    • Develops strategies to engage and retain churches across the nation with Compassion's full ministry options and strategically uses management for ever increasing deepened commitment to and involvement with Compassion.
    • Initiates processes and procedures that ensure the effectiveness and consistency of all field operations activities.
    • Develops and directs strategies to effectively engage the Church in the United States regarding the needs of children in poverty, while providing the opportunity to meet these needs through Compassion's ministry.
    • Directs the strategic planning and implementation of overseas exposure, vision, and short term missions trips to meet the unique needs of churches and church leaders.

    Faith

    • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.


    Culture

    • Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion's core "Cultural Behaviors" in all internal and external communication and relationships.


    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree Business, Marketing, or related discipline preferred. MBA preferred


    Work Experience

    • 15+ years of experience working with churches of various denominations with strong track record of success. Experience in these areas dealing with the local church and business is important. 

    Competencies

    • Highly skilled in people and business management.
    • Advanced knowledge in sales, marketing, business development and management.
    • Strong knowledge of Biblical teaching, especially concerning poverty and Compassion-related themes.
    • Excellent financial/budget skills required.
    • Highly developed entrepreneurial skills.
    • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to evaluate, inspire, train, and motivate staff, church relationships, and partnerships.
    • Excellent communication skills. Experience in writing and implementing training programs for volunteers and church relationships. Public speaking experience required.
    • Excellent organizational and operational skills.

    Working Environment: Office – Standard Office Environment

    Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day

    Travel Requirements: Position requires 30-40% domestic and international travel.
