Part-time International Trip Leader

Leads or co-leads Sponsor Tours, Short-Term Mission Trips and Vision Trips that support Compassion’s overall constituent marketing strategy on an as-needed on-call basis. Partners to build relationships with current and prospective ministry partners thereby enhancing Compassion’s ability to minister to and champion children in poverty.

Essential Job Functions


  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
  • Leads group exposure trips such as Vision Trips, Sponsor Tours, and Short-Term Mission Trips. Creates dynamic experiences on every trip in coordination with field staff, building on best practices.
  • Adheres to budgets of each trip such as managing trip costs, driving key expense variables, and conducting actual trip variance reporting.
  • Develops professional relationships with sponsors and other key partners that enhance Compassion's ministry. Enables sponsors to build a more meaningful relationship with their child and a deeper commitment to Compassion's ministry.

  • Significant international work in planning/leading group events, including cross-cultural events, preferably with major emphasis on Short-Term Church Mission trips.
  • Effective interpersonal and group communication skills. Communicates effectively to a variety of customers through verbal presentation, email and other methods.
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills for tactical planning and management.
  • Thrives under pressure and meets deadlines.
  • Works effectively on a team while having strong self-management skills.
  • Experience maintaining budgets.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Compassion's ministry.


  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in the area of communications, public relations or marketing preferred.



  • International trip leading experience preferred.


  • Ability to speak other languages preferred.


  • Compassion’s group trips involve travel to poor and dangerous areas within developing countries. Conditions may frequently be uncomfortable and challenging. While leading trips, long hours are necessary and work outside of normal office hours is often required.
  • This is an on-call position. Candidates selected for this role will receive training and will be paid on a per-trip basis. There will be no regular full-time employment with Compassion between trips.
  • Travel: On-call trip leaders will generally lead between 5-6 international trips throughout the year. However, as this is an on-call position, there is no guarantee of minimum or maximum trips offered per year.
