The principal project manager is the project management subject matter expert, navigating clients through complex projects. Conducting detailed and complex projects, this professional secures required resources and uses formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks and changes. He or she manages the ministries largest and most complex projects to ensure on-time completion according to specifications and within budgeted costs. At this career level, the incumbent provides highly competent leadership in the conduct of major, complex projects for multiple countries. Further, he or she frequently coaches and oversees the work of other specialists and related staff and provides expertise across levels and disciplines.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.

  • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.

  • The primary purpose of this principal professional, serving as the subject matter expert, includes using discretion and judgement to lead complex project planning, resourcing, staffing, supply and subcontract management on extensive, multi-phase projects, generally in international venues.

  • This principal incumbent effectively uses structured project governance systems for monitoring and tracking deliverables and resolving highly complex issues, ensuring delivery of major projects to the plan and budget.

  • The project manager applies expert professional project management skills to lead in the planning, monitoring and managing of major, complex projects with a high number of extremely skilled experts, from initiation through completion. This includes developing assignments, timetables and responsibilities for team members for the duration of the project.

  • The incumbent ensures critical progress reporting, troubleshooting and people management. This includes, recruiting or screening, organizing, motivating, and directing team members, and ensuring that materials and equipment resources are delivered on time.

  • The project manager monitors performance and recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions, driving team performance to successful, on time and budget completion.

  • This principal incumbent ensures project results meet the highest requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost.

  • The incumbent frequently coaches, provides expertise, and may oversee the work of other professionals and support staff in the department or division.

  • This senior manager ensures the project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost.

  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or related discipline

  • Work Experience
  • Fifteen years Professional experience working in project management or a similar field.

  • Licenses and Certifications
  • Project Management Professional or similar level certification.

    Working Environment: Office – Standard Office Environment

    Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day

    Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 10% of normal schedule
