Overview

Develops and manages 30-40 group field exposure trips per year to Compassion’s field offices including direct leadership/management of 6 trips per year with 20-60 participants per trip. Formulates and implements strategies to highlight our ministry, deepen sponsor, donor and ministry partner engagement, increase acquisitions of new sponsorships/giving and increase retention sponsorship rate. Serves as subject matter expert on cross-cultural and international trips and acts as a development resource for relationship managers/directors to build experiences that enhance Compassion’s ability to minister to and champion children in poverty.

 

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time temporary position based in Colorado Springs and ending February 26, 2018.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
  • Educates sponsors and ministry partners on core ministry programs to increase involvement and sponsorship of children.
  • Plans and implements 30-40 exposure trips per year. Utilizes independent judgement to negotiate with field staff to plan trips based on marketing objectives presented. Leads/manages 6 international trips per year.
  • Identifies strategic marketing opportunities to maximize return on investment through international trips. Formulates short and long-term business objectives.
  • Forecasts budgets for each trip, driving key expense variables and actual trip budget variance reporting. Provides sound judgement on trip financial decisions, impacting trip budget between $750k and $1mil annually.
  • Acts as the sole representative of Compassion USA on each trip, overseeing and attending to the needs of up to 60 trip participants/guests of Compassion. Demonstrates high level of discretion and independent judgment to protect Compassion’s ministry interests.
  • Directs all group activities, team building, education and debriefing, safety and security, problem resolution, attention to medical needs and emergency/crisis response.
  • Assesses and mitigates foreseeable risk for all trip participants traveling to the region. Utilizes external resources to become highly proficient in travel security to area. Manages crises when they arise.
  • Provides supervisory leadership to on-all, contract and co-trip leaders.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and information on sponsor engagement regarding Compassion programs and trip outcomes. Contributes to marketing revenue generating objectives. Partners with Global Program group to ensure field exposure trip quality and effectiveness. Collaborates to ensure that all USA trip needs are being addressed and delivers excellent trips.
  • Acts independently to resolve elevated customer service related issues with key constituents as needed

COMPETENCIES

  • Advanced knowledge in planning group trips, including cross-cultural events, preferably with educational/motivational approach.
  • Advanced knowledge in marketing and cross-cultural communications.
  • Effective interpersonal and group communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of customers through verbal presentation, email and other methods.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple trips in different phases of planning and time-lines.
  • Strong problem-solver with a systematic approach and broad understanding of the impact of a solution in the multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis management and/or critical thinking.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in the area of communications, public relations or marketing preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years in leadership position with proven success. Demonstrated international trip leadership experience (leading and managing large groups of people from diverse backgrounds). Significant experience in budget forecasting.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English. Proficient use of other languages preferred.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Compassion’s group trips involve travel to poor and dangerous areas within developing countries. Conditions may frequently be uncomfortable and challenging. Long hours are necessary and work outside of normal office hours is often required.
  • Those associated with travel in developing countries.
  • Travel: Position requires approximately 6 international trips throughout the year, varying in length from 8 to 12 days at a time.
