Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor of Global Support Services (GSS) Communications, the Communications Specialist III provides strategic communications guidance to functional leaders, clients and key stakeholders. This individual helps determine communication needs and set priorities, and then designs, develops and implements plans that increase awareness and drive engagement with small and large-scale ministry programs and initiatives. He or she creates innovative and creative solutions to communication challenges in order to foster understanding and acceptance for organizational initiatives, policies and practices. This individual also develops content, including key messages, themes, scripts and talking points to support communication plans. He or she manages multiple, simultaneous communication projects to successful completion and periodically assesses efforts to ensure communications are achieving the desired results.

Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
  • Acts as an advocate for children – raising the awareness of the needs, neglect, nurture, and potential of children in poverty and challenging and enabling those within one’s influence to greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of children.
  • Develops creative, clear, written material, primarily in support of the organization's internal communications strategies, planning, developing and publishing communications media (newsletters, brochures, manuals, website content, etc.). Occasionally serves in a public speaking capacity.
  • Develops and maintains the organization's style guide, including editorial standards and policies.
  • Observes and interprets internal and external organizational challenges and recommends communication initiatives and practices to improve programs, processes or outcomes.
  • Works with internal clients and development professionals to implement policies and programs to increase awareness and knowledge of activities affecting internal audiences.
  • Plans, prepares, and relays information concerning the organization to internal audiences that fosters understanding and acceptance for organization initiatives, policies, and practices.
  • Works closely with management and staff to develop and implement communication projects.
  • May support activities such as managing budgets, monitoring activities, and providing coaching and training to lower level staff.
  • May coach and provide expertise to other professionals and support staff in the communications discipline.

Qualifications

Faith

  • Has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.



Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related discipline


Work Experience

  • Seven years Professional experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, or similar field.
  • Strong experience in the strategic/creative side of developing communications.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Communications Management Professional Certification granted by the International Association of Business Communicators.

Working Environment: Office – Standard Office Environment

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to 8 hours per day

Travel Requirements: May be required to travel up to 10% of normal schedule
